Abstract

Abstract
This article provides a nuanced exploration of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and its profound impact on teenage girls, offering a comprehensive overview of its causes, symptoms, and coping strategies. Recognizing PMS as a distinct diagnostic entity, the World Health Organization and the American Psychiatric Association validate the distress and socio-occupational impairment experienced by affected individuals. The manifestation of PMS, characterized by intense mood disturbances and psychological symptoms during the luteal phase, poses unique challenges for teenage girls. The article looks into the hormonal foundations, emphasizing the role of estrogen and progesterone fluctuations in influencing neurotransmitters and contributing to mood-related symptoms. Beyond the biological aspect, the exploration extends to the psychological and socio-cultural dimensions, acknowledging the potential influence of societal expectations and feminist perspectives. Insightful coping strategies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and lifestyle modifications, are discussed, highlighting the importance of holistic approaches. This overview aims to enhance understanding and awareness, empowering healthcare professionals, educators, and parents to support teenage girls in dealing with the complexities of PMDS, fostering not only physical well-being but also emotional resilience during this crucial developmental phase.
